My name is Sebastian van Baalen and I am a Swedish freelance journalist. Previously I have worked for Swedish newspapers Upsala Nya Tidning, ETC and Dagen, as well as for the magazines Omvärlden and West Magazine. I have also been the editor-in-chief of foreign policy magazine Uttryck. Focusing primarily on foreign affairs I have, for example, reported from the Arab Spring in Egypt and written about human rights violations in Azerbaijan. My second topic of focus is action sports such as skiing, surfing and skateboarding.
I study politics and peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University, finishing my Bachelors Degree in June 2013. During my fifth semester (2nd semester 2012) I was living and working in Stellenbosch in South Africa. My last major working trip was in Mozambique at the end of 2012.
